Point2 On 'The Edge' With Akamai Integration

Point2 Technologies, Inc. has joined such technology giants as Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM in integrating Akamai’s Edgeplatform.  Edgeplatform is the largest distributed computing network on Earth, consisting of nearly 15,000 servers in over 70 countries worldwide, and offers a level of scalability, stability, and security that is simply unavailable anywhere else.

Akamai’s network routinely handles up to 15% of all global web traffic, and is a significant contributor to the stability of the World Wide Web itself.  Point2’s origin servers communicate directly with the Akamai servers which in turn communicate with Point2 clients.  Because the Akamai servers are ‘on the edge,’ and are physically near to virtually every computer on earth, speed is dramatically increased, scalability becomes virtually boundless, and the strain placed on individual networks by wildly fluctuating traffic loads is minimized.

“The network stability, additional security, and performance gains realized by implementing Edgeplatform are immeasurably valuable for Point2” says Brendan King, Point2 Realty Solutions COO.  “Because our web presence will constantly be maintained on all of Akamai’s remote servers as well as our own, our services will remain always-on, even in the event of some major unforeseeable local interruption.  Add that to performance gains and absolute scalability, and Akamai’s service looks not only attractive, but indispensable.”

Point2’s relationship with Akamai will eventually implement many more of Akamai’s features than just Edgeplatform, once again raising efficiency and security to unparalleled levels in the interest of its customers.
