Point2 Technologies Inc., owner and operator of
the world’s largest online heavy equipment exchange, is pushing heavy
equipment resale in new direction.
UsedIron.com has dropped its listing prices altogether. UsedIron.com will no longer charge for Premium advertising, nor take any commission on successful sales.
The
site has been given an entirely new public face, with a sleeker look
and simple, user-friendly navigation. The update aims to refresh the
look of UsedIron.com, keeping the interface intuitive while providing
more information to visitors.
UsedIron.com
has been given more than just a facelift, however. Coinciding with the
changes to the website is a re-thinking about how heavy equipment is
sold online.
Finding
that classified ads are often ignored, partially because they include
no photos, UsedIron has made Premium Advertisements (which include
photographs and detailed information) free of charge. “We’ve always
said,” says Chad Placsko, Heavy Equipment Business Manager for Point2,
“that we want to maintain the most vibrant equipment exchange in the
world, period. Making Premium ads completely free is putting our money
where our mouth is.”
From
a business standpoint, Chester Hagen, VP of Sales, is excited about the
change. “This is a call to action for anyone buying or selling heavy
equipment. Not only are we encouraging users to create better, more
detailed, photo-rich ads, we’re allowing them to do so without paying a
cent.” In addition to charging no insertion fees for these
advertisements, UsedIron takes no other fees or closing commission.
Point2’s
successes in dealing heavy equipment online since 1996 have always
involved bold decisions, and the new website and concept for
UsedIron.com are no exceptions.
